About

John Ehrman is an artist living and working in London. Through a multidisciplinary practice he explores and documents relationships between humans and the clothing we choose to wear. He examines the importance of clothing in society as a powerful medium of self expression, a class and race distinguisher through garments which are stereotyped to particular classes and groups and its role as a key force in cultural and social change documenting the ways in which fashion contributed to shifts in youth culture and analysing various aspects of social history which has been influenced by what we have chosen to wear. He uncovers and documents these relations in a multi media practice which involves working with media such as drawing, painting, video, photography, print and installation. Combining media to create an immersive visual documentation of clothing’s societal impact and its role in shaping past and present social histories.
